Blood Boosting Smoothie

Not only is this smoothie super filling, refreshing and perfect after a hard workout, but it's packed full of fibre, complex carbohydrates and most importantly, nitrates - which when eaten, break down into nitrites. Nitrites are beneficial and amazing for our bodies as they provide the nitric oxide we need to keep our blood vessels dilated, therefore keeping our blood pressure levels stable. In addition, nitric oxide also displays anti-platelet properties, which helps to prevent unnecessary blood clotting.


RECIPE:


INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 cups purple kale

  • 1 cup spinach

  • 1/2 raw beetroot

  • 2 frozen bananas

  • 1 tbsp ground flax seeds

  • 1 tsp spirulina powder

  • 1/2 cup almond milk

  • Water

METHOD:

  1. In a high speed blender, firstly add the kale, spinach and water. Blend until smooth.

  2. Chop the beetroot and bananas into small chunks and add to the blender.

  3. Add the ground flax seeds, spirulina and almond milk.

  4. Blend until smooth, adding more water or almond milk if needed.

  5. Enjoy!
