Smoothies are a great way to start your morning. They are an easy way to boost your fruit and vegetable intake for the day and are packed full of nutrients and fibre. Be sure to blend your smoothies well, drink them slowly and although it may sound funny, make sure to chew your smoothies before swallowing! Chewing your smoothies ensures full breakdown of the food particles which maximises nutrient absorption in the gut!
Now onto the recipe! This recipe makes about 2 serves so feel free to share half with your loved one or save the rest for a snack later in the day!
2 frozen bananas
1 cup frozen mango
2 cups fresh greens (lettuce, spinach, rocket, kale etc)
1 tbsp ground flax seeds
½ tsp turmeric
½ tsp ginger
In a blender, add the mixed greens and water. Blend until smooth.
Chop the frozen banana and mango in small chunks and add to the blender (if you have a high-powered blender, you may not need to chop them).
Add the ground flax seeds, turmeric and ginger.
Blend until smooth. (You may need to add a little more water if the mixture is looking rather thick).
Transfer to a glass and enjoy!
